punjab: Pargat: Punjab Probing ‘distortions’ in the history books | Chandigarh News

Chandigarh: Punjab Education Minister Pargat Singh made it clear on Sunday that the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is already carrying out an investigation into the objections raised by some people regarding the misrepresentation of facts in the history book and that the investigation report would be published before March 5.
The Minister of Education also assured that anyone found guilty in the investigation would be strictly prosecuted. The tinkering with facts and their distortion would not be tolerated, he added.
Baldev Singh Sirsa, a peasant leader and social activist based in Amritsar, and Lakha Sidhana, a gangster turned social activist, have raised objections to various facts about Sikh gurus mentioned in the history books that Punjab public school students read. Sanyukt Kisan Morcha had presented Sidhana as a candidate for the February 20 Punjab assembly polls from the Maur assembly segment.
Sirsa said a book called “History of Punjab” had been taught in public schools in Punjab for 28 years with wrong facts and education board officials had no justified response. Sirsa and Sidhana had also staged protests outside the PSEB office in Mohali. Sidhana said these books presented a misleading image of Sikh gurus.
